Josi Girl 04:04
Pulling up young roots and setting down again It is never easy but sometimes you need to start again.  Coming from the rain and traveling to the sun Discovering your music in a record shop in town  Like a migrating bird, always finds it's home  if something in your heart is missing then you will return A message in your heart screams something isn't right  living for your music but needing something more You can take the Girl from england, but you can't take the england from the girl. She can travel round the world in circle she will always stay a Josi girl Returning to the start where you once began Starting a new life in this tiny green England  Hoping for the light but discovering the truth The more you learn less you think you've understood  Hustle, bustle, rush of seedy london town  looking up to the grey sky can sometimes pull you down Josi girl has landed and 'just now' she is home laying down new roots and finding she is not alone You can take the Girl from england, but you can't take the england from the girl. She can travel round the world in circle she will always stay a Josi girl Ahh Shame Ahh Shame Ahh Shame Ahh Shame

Smyleen 04:03
Theres this girl I’ve seen around, Belfast born and bred, she was bound to follow in her fathers steps, pick up a pencil and off she went creating art and making friends. Her happy memories of the past, at the back of nanny’s door slinging darts, all is well till brothers turn, claims accident as her leg burns. At least the pain would wear off fast . Comic books and new tattoos making friends you’ll never lose All of these things and some more Smyleen, Smyleen smile some more Theres this girl I’ve seen around, always at the front and singing loud, an inminion right from the start, a love of music deep in her heart. She rests her arm knees on the bar. Comic books and new tattoos making friends you’ll never lose All of these things and some more Smyleen, Smyleen smile some more She cries out mac rí because she misses her family, so proud of Irish roots She cries out mac rí when resting so quietly in Danny’s loving arms She cries out mac rí honouring nanny’s life and watching for the stars Muddling words right from the start, driving round in Hadleigh Car All of these things and some more Smyleen will you smile some more Comic books and new tattoos making friends you’ll never lose All of these things and some more Smyleen, Smyleen smile some more

Brownsoulsister She’s my Brownsoulsister yet we do not share a name I said she’s my Brownsoulsister and music to blame When I was down she’d always come around and pick up my frown and turn it upside down Yeah when I’m feeling down I always can rely on my Brownsoulsister and I’m always glad you came She’s my Brownsoulsister and Sukhy is her name Shes a friend you can rely on and I know you feel the same When I’m alone I need to hear your tone I just pick up the phone and find out if you are home yeah when I’m feeling down I always can rely on my Brownsoulsister Well this poor, poor boy Sad only child Never had a brother or a sister Until the day he was swept under the wings of the gentle Bahia sisters She’s my Brownsoulsister A yellow string and a promise made You will always be my sister I’ll protect you if you call my name

Here is your song Oh Greg, you’ve waited so long Here now is your song This time it wont take me so long So let’s look back at the times that have gone What’s happened since when  My pledge campaign began And you now completed your own. Your ‘Streets Of Rage’ smashed 600% and Centiment are still going strong Bm C D When I turn my head back to see Your helping hands are there supporting me Oh you pledged and you have my thanks now It wont take so long Here is your song   Oh Greg, you’ve waited so long Please accept this song I’m late but I hope worth the wait But before this song is done I'll confess your pledge was biggest and best when you asked me for several t-shirts 3 Bjork covers which are nearly all done and of course the matter of this song   Oh I know that I left you waiting just sat there holding on and i'm sorry if that was frustrating but wait Here now is your song

Days In The Sun Another night another glass The usual suspects turn and share a laugh Its that drunken epiphany before we all pass out. It's the kind of time that makes you believe You have the answers securely up your sleeve Just before they fade As i learn and grow and find out more the universe unfolds and there more to know A chance a gift, how lucky I am To peel back the layers and peer within The fleshy machine in which we begin And slowly end our days Days In the sun A dying star where it all begun At night we come undone Drunk with the knowledge of the stars above Shrouded by a blanket of stars apart yet still a part of it all as I close my eyes and I sink within the soup of atoms from which I began I'm reabsorbed for life to begin again and again Sometimes we all forget This machine in which we lie is not so much a host But a manifestation of our lives

Uncle Dave and Grandpa joined the army When they returned Dave planned for wedding bells to ring. Grandpa was the best man at the wedding and it wasn’t long till the parties in full swing. He saw a beautiful girl, the bridesmaid at the wedding and he watched her spin around and around But as the clock struck twelve and the carriages were leaving He thought that was the last time he'd see that beautiful girl 3 score years The love of a lifetime If finding loves is hard Then keeping it is harder Learning to light the spark and keep it burning bright forever by taking on those vows we promised to love forever It wasn’t long till he met that girl from the wedding She was now a nurse at St James in Leeds They started Courting in the peak district of England And pretty soon they held a wedding of their own The patter of tiny feet was heard first time with Janet After she arrived they moved far across the seas Phillipa was born in and raised in Ghana But they soon came home and the rest is history So here we are together at the party Its hard to believe that 60years has past Shining bright like diamonds sparkling forever Just like a diamonds this love will last

about

Songs For You...

This album was made by collaborating with a small number of amazing folk that supported the release of my debut album ‘Solow’. They gave me photographs, names, stories or just a phrase and asked me to write them a song. These nine tracks make the album, ‘Songs For You...’.

All songs written/recorded/produced by H.Ford (C) (2014)
H.Ford: vocal/guitars/bass/cajon/omnichord/egg/kermit tambourine

I cannot thank Simon, Jo, Kirsten and Gareth, Eileen and Danny, Sukhy, Jat, Mia and Parmvir, Sandeep & Sunaina, Greg and Leanna, Dave and Kate, Bradley and The Hawleys enough for the opportunity, their support and their kindness.
Thank YOU for supporting my music and taking the time to read this!

The bonus tracks:

Nanna Peebs: A song that never passed the demo stage after ‘Days in the Sun’ jumped into my brain.
Greg & Leanna: Greg asked for the cheesiest song I could write...
Love Of a Lifetime: A live version featuring the amazing Sophie Reynolds on vocal. Check her out!
Days In The Sun: The first time I had ever played the song all the way through, recorded live to iPhone.
Creating Smyleen: Live run through of some different ideas. I eventually settled on the second version.
Josi Girl: This was the first complete run through of the song.
